Vessel Log: 2009 05 29

: kids from H. Elementary are synchronized dancing to the Japanese remake of the Pet Shop Boys’s “Go West”. In the middle of class, I laugh to myself; the wind picks up, waves of brown dust, heat of the sun and wind from the Russian north; ni-nen-sei and san-nen-sei practice for next week’s Sports’ Day; I stretch with 3C, much to their amusement; M. says, Ichi! Ni! San! Yon! We yell back, Go! Roku! Nana! Hachi! Then, for me, he does it in English; relay races, three-legged races, chain gang runs; I’m awkward in my dress shirt and pants; T.-sensei gives me a ride home and I tell her about California judges’ Prop 8 ruling and she’s equally appalled; B., A. and I ride to the train station; B. and I ride the straddle section of the cars; Otaru Beer Garden in the Parade Building; feels like drinking and eating on the Mezzanine; J. and J. come by; we stay longer than planned with a four hour nomihodai.
